Virgin Gorda, one of 36 islands that make up the British Virgin Islands, is 8 miles long and 3 miles wide with a population of about 2,400. It is relatively untouched by mass tourism and is known for its tranquil and secluded beaches, friendly people, and premier sailing and diving locations. The currency is the U.S. dollar and either a passport or birth certificate is accepted for entry into the BVI's.

WEATHER
The temperature fluctuates between 76 and 86 degrees for most of the year with winter temperatures occasionally dipping to the low 70s at night and daytime temperatures rising to the low 90s in the summer months. The most reliable source for weather information for the BVI's can be found at www.caribwx.com.

GETTING THERE
Virgin Gorda is a 45 minute flight from San Juan , Puerto Rico or a 20 minute flight from St. Thomas, USVI. Air Sunshine, LIAT and Air St. Thomas have scheduled flights into the small Virgin Gorda airport. You can also fly into the larger airport in Tortola and then catch a ferry either from the airport (North Sound Express) or from the ferry dock in Road Town (Speedy's or Smith's). The ferry schedules, plus a great deal of other useful information, can be found on the BVI Welcome Magazine web site at www.bviwelcome.com.

THINGS TO DO
Watersports of all kinds can be experienced on Virgin Gorda including skiing, parasailing, and kayaking. Although wonderful snorkeling can be found at any one of the 17 beaches on Virgin Gorda, the snorkeling at Mahoe Bay minutes from your door step, is among the very best. Tennis is also available for villa guests at the Mahoe Bay tennis courts, a two minute walk from Bellamare.

There are also a number of interesting things to see on the island, the historic Copper Mine, Virgin Gorda Peak, the Baths and the Sugar Mill ruins, are a few. For those visitors who like a little more adventure there are many different types of daytrips that can be arranged including sailing, diving, or snorkeling the other islands, or just exploring the beautiful BVI's.

FOOD AND DRINK
Bellamare provides a completely equipped gourmet kitchen and a poolside grill and wet bar for those who would prefer to have their meals in the comfort of the villa. Groceries are available at Bucks in Spanishtown, Rosie's in the Valley, and at RTW's on the road to the Baths. Most purchases at RTW are in bulk which usually means you have to buy in sets of threes, but the prices are excellent especially for drinks. There are also a number of good restaurants on Virgin Gorda, including one within walking distance of Bellamare. Reservations are often a good idea, particularly during the high season.
